How to get started in parkour
How to get started in parkour:
Parkour Earth has collaborated with artist and practitioner @tamwithacam to produce a comic for those looking to get into parkour. It's both beautiful and (we hope) useful as a resource for those wanting to get started in parkour.
1) Classes
Look for Parkour Gyms in your area
Starting with a coach is a safe and efficient way to learn
Classes can be held in parkour gyms, indoor venues or outside
If you can't access classes, there are other options, check out the next step.
2) Community
Check on social media to find the people who are already training in your area
You can get in touch with them and go train togehter
They'll know the spots to train at and can even help guide you on your journey
3) Tutorials
You can also fine a wealth of tutorials online!
Search for key words like: Kong vault, lazy vault, speed vault, precision jump, tic-tac, wall run, wall pass, cat leap, cat 180, climb up etc.
Also, bring a friend! When you are learning it's important to be as safe as possible. Additionally, you can help each other out and learn a lot faster.
4) Open your parkour vision
The possibilities are endless
Look around you to find places where you can practice.
But stay respectful, if you are asked to leave an area, we recommend you be polite, explain what you are doing, but leave when asked. You can always go back!
5) Stay Safe
Never jump or climb on anything without checking if it's sturdy first
Always try to have someone there with you when you practice so if anything goes wrong you have some assistance.
6) Clothes
Try to find shoes that are flexible with a flat sole and good grip. You will get a feel of what good grip is as you go through a few pairs.
Wear anything that allows a wide range of movement
And finally, Have fun!
